In recent years, Vietnam – Japan relationship has been growing rapidly and Japan is now one of the most important partners of Vietnam in various aspects including economic, trade, education, science and technology. Currently, there are about 350,000 Vietnamese citizens residing in Japan, among those many are scientists and researchers working at reputable universities, research institutes and leading companies. Along with the growth of the community of Vietnamese researchers and experts in Japan, a growing number of the Vietnamese alumni are coming back from Japan and actively contributing to the development of Vietnam as well as the Japan-Vietnam bilateral relationship. The Vietnamese Academic Network in Japan (VANJ) was established in 2016 in Tokyo as a result of the rapid growth of the community, and proudly serves as a platform for promoting intellectual collaborations and friendship between people of the two countries. We have been annually co-organizing many important Vietnam – Japan scientific events in the recent years:
- Vietnam Japan Scientific Exchange Meeting VJSE2017 (Tokyo): 250 participants.
- Vietnam Japan Scientific Exchange Meeting VJSE2018 (Sendai): 150 participants.
- Vietnam – Japan Science and Technology Symposium VJST2019 (Hanoi): 200 participants.
- Vietnam Summit in Japan 2019 (Tokyo): 900 participants.
Following the success of the previous events, “VANJ 2020 – Science and Technology in the New Normal” welcomes all the scientists, researchers, experts and intellectuals to jointly participate and discuss on various aspects of science and technology. This year, as the COVID-19 is deeply affecting all countries and people over the world, one of the important focus points of VANJ 2020 is navigating the way to realize safe and secure lives for people and stable economic growth in the “New Normal” of the post-COVID era, in which science and technology are playing a leading role.
VANJ 2020 will be held on a virtual platform, which is becoming a new normal for many international conferences in the COVID-era, in two days of 28 and 29th, November 2020. Participants of this conference are mainly researchers from Japan and Vietnam, but researchers from other countries and regions are warmly welcome. We sincerely hope that VANJ 2020 would be a timely ground to tighten the Vietnam – Japan scientific network in a time of “social distancing,” and reposition the roles of ourselves in the new era of both uncertainties and opportunities.
The Vietnamese Academic Network in Japan (VANJ) are honored to organize VANJ 2020 – Science and Technology in the New Normal as a dynamic and multidisciplinary platform for science and technology exchange between the two countries. With the overall theme of “Science and Technology in the New Normal,” VANJ 2020 welcomes all the scientists, researchers and experts in Japan and Vietnam to discuss how science and technology can reshape various aspects of the new world of the post-COVID era.
The scope of VANJ 2020 includes, but is not limited to the following topics:
